These values demonstrate both mass dependent and mass independent fractionation of Hg isotopes relative to the NIST3133 common. Significantly, the two Perdigões bone samples fall inside the variety of values previously determined for cinnabar ore from the Almadén region33 whilst the bone sample from Sobreira de Cima falls outdoors of this range (Fig. 4).
